The WRC recommended that a care services company pay a care worker €2,000 after it failed to give him the written notice required by his fixed-term contract. The recommendation was dated 8 August 2022. The worker said his contract was ended by phone after a complaint against him, without a fair chance to respond. The company said the contract had reached its natural end when a permanent employee became available after a bereavement. The officer found the worker had been rostered beyond the contract end date and had not been told verbally that it was ending. The officer also found no case had been made that he committed wrongdoing and noted he had been cleared of the allegation. The contract required four weeks’ notice in writing.
