The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Bernard Mongan’s complaint that delays in addressing a workplace issue amounted to discrimination on the Traveller ground. Mongan said the employer would have dealt with his complaint more promptly if he had not been a Traveller. The respondent attributed delays to staff turnover, withdrawn witness statements and internal union issues. The adjudication officer found no specific evidence that Mongan’s Traveller background caused the delays, which could have affected another employee as well. The complaint failed. The decision was dated 25 October 2023.
