WRC recommends no action over wage deductions

The WRC recommended that an employer take no action over a worker’s dispute about deductions from wages during an absence from work. The recommendation was dated 11 May 2022. The worker’s representative said €131.40 was deducted weekly for 11 weeks. The employer said wages paid during the absence were reduced by an amount the worker might have claimed as illness benefit. The adjudicator noted there was no evidence that the worker was ineligible for or had not received the benefit, and did not accept that the deductions should not have been made.
