WRC rejects Odeon manager’s unfair dismissal complaint

The Workplace Relations Commission found Mukesh Kumar Salyan’s unfair dismissal complaint against Kivaway Limited The Odeon Group not well founded, saying it did not believe an actual dismissal had taken place. The decision was dated 16 August 2023. Salyan had worked as a bar manager and said he was left without work or contact while other staff and new employees were hired. The company said COVID-related closures led to a temporary lay-off and that it offered him re-employment at Dakota on improved terms. The officer noted conflicting evidence about whether a dismissal occurred.
