The WRC recommended that an employer pay a worker €1,500 after finding that a short absence did not warrant dismissal. The recommendation was dated 30 March 2023. The worker said he had not been told how to report an absence and sent a WhatsApp message before a shift to say he was unwell. The employer said it had lost trust after the missed shift and that its client did not want the worker back; it accepted the worker had received no contract or absence policy. The officer found the dismissal fell far short of the treatment expected from a reasonable employer.
