WRC does not recommend regularising health service worker as nursing manager

The Workplace Relations Commission did not recommend that a health service provider regularise a worker as a Clinical Nurse Manager 1 after the worker’s acting appointment ended. The recommendation was dated 20 January 2023. The Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA), representing the worker, said he had been disadvantaged when his acting appointment ended and later resumed, and sought retrospective pay and revised pension entitlements. The employer said he had not applied for a permanent role through a national competition and did not hold the acting post when a 2020 circular took effect. The officer noted that the provider and PNA had agreed to fill vacancies from national panels before the worker’s appointment ended. The post-filling process began months before later advice about planned permanent appointments. The officer did not recommend in favour of the worker’s claim.
