The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that an employer pay a worker €2,000 and automatically offer interview training to staff who have acted up in a position for more than 12 months. The recommendation was dated 29 September 2022. The worker said it was unfair to return him to his craft gardener role after almost 14 years as an acting chargehand. The employer said he had not succeeded in two later competitions for the permanent post. The WRC found it unfair that he had not been properly prepared for the 2021 interview. It noted that he had no disciplinary or competency issues and had worked flexibly across locations with staff shortages.
