The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Mark J. Savage’s Equal Status complaint against Google Ireland Holdings Unlimited Company, finding he had not established a prima facie case of discrimination. The decision was dated 30 May 2023.
Savage alleged religious discrimination over a request to remove newspaper articles about him from search results. Google Ireland Holdings said the complaint was brought against the wrong entity and that Google LLC operated Google Search and the takedown service. Savage argued that the respondent was jointly responsible.
The adjudication officer found that Google Ireland Holdings had no role in the alleged discrimination and was not vicariously liable for Google LLC. The complaint was dismissed.
