The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found Danielle Bird was unfairly dismissed by Cherryhill Inns Limited and directed the company to pay her €13,000, about 26 weeks’ net pay.
Bird worked as a pastry chef from November 2019 until her dismissal in July 2021. The company said a downturn in demand for pastry and desserts led to redundancy. Bird said she faced criticism and a threat to her job after disclosing her pregnancy, and that she could have been offered another role.
The WRC found the redundancy was not genuine and that the company had not acted reasonably. The decision was dated 13 November 2023.
