The Workplace Relations Commission found that Siphelele Victoria Mawuli’s race discrimination complaint against A&G Couriers Limited T/a Fastway Couriers (Ireland) was not well founded. The decision, dated 30 September 2022, concerned allegations linked to a visit to the company’s depot during Covid-19 restrictions.

Mawuli said she went to collect a parcel on 22 May 2020, found the depot closed and was reported to Gardaí for breaching the 5km rule. She alleged two white women who were also outside the depot were not reported. Fastway said the complaint was late and that the issues concerned service rather than discrimination.

The adjudication officer found the allegation about the May 2020 incident was outside the time limit. She also considered an alleged occurrence on 12 April 2021. Mawuli had notified Fastway by email on 21 April 2021, but the officer found she had not shown that she was treated less favourably than a customer of a different race on 12 April. The complaint was therefore not well founded. The time limit finding applied to the May 2020 allegation; the later allegation was considered on its merits.
