The Workplace Relations Commission found James Jackson’s disability discrimination complaint against An Post was not well founded. The decision was dated 18 January 2023.
Jackson said he was refused service at the GPO in Cork while trying to sign for job-seekers allowance because he was not wearing a mask due to severe anxiety. An Post denied discrimination and argued that he had not established a disability at the time or told it about one.
The adjudication officer found Jackson had provided no medical evidence establishing a disability at the time and had not shown that he informed An Post of its nature. He did not establish a prima facie case, meaning enough evidence to require An Post to answer an allegation of discrimination.
