The WRC recommended that an employer pay a worker €10,000 over flaws in a public service recruitment competition and a delayed internal review. The recommendation was dated 7 December 2022.
The worker was marked on driving aptitude and fitness without practical assessments, and the Commission for Public Service Appointments found that paper based assessment of those skills was inappropriate. It considered the general scoring fair, but found breaches in the review process and its timing.
The adjudication officer recommended €5,000 for the shortlisting flaws and €5,000 for the delay. The employer had argued that the scoring was consistent and that reopening the competition would be unfair to other candidates.
