The Workplace Relations Commission found Noel Barron’s dismissal by Orbit Security Limited unfair and awarded him €20,336.43. The decision was dated 19 December 2023. The WRC said there was no recognisable fair procedure in the termination of his employment.

Barron said he was told he would be made redundant in September 2020 but never received an alleged earlier dismissal letter. Orbit Security did not attend the hearing. The WRC found Barron remained employed until at least 10 September and that his employment ended around the end of that month.

The award included €10,000 for wage loss, after the WRC reduced its assessment to account for insufficient efforts to find work, and €10,336.43 for the loss of redundancy rights. The separate complaint seeking a redundancy payment was not well founded.
