The WRC found Maynooth University did not discriminate against Mohamed Saad on race or religion grounds when he applied for an Assistant Professor/Lecturer post. The decision, dated 31 August 2022, concerned access to employment.

Saad said people with similar characteristics to his were under-represented in academic recruitment. The university said candidates were assessed against agreed criteria. Saad scored 74 points and came third; the highest-ranked candidate scored 80. The officer found that the question about Saad’s teaching experience in Egypt did not support an inference of discrimination in the context of the interview process, and found no other aspect of the process or marking supported such an inference.
