A WRC adjudication officer recommended that an employee and a financial services employer accept an independent report's recommendations to resolve a long-running workplace dispute. The recommendation was dated 3 March 2023. The officer recommended increasing the report's proposed general damages by €12,500 and loss of opportunity cost by €7,500.
The dispute followed the employee's return to work after a successful court challenge to enforced long-term sick leave. He said the employer was slow to arrange his return and that workplace and career issues remained unresolved. The employer said it was willing to implement the independent report, but that a secondment depended on a third party's agreement.
The officer said the report was comprehensive, fair and balanced, but that some of the employee's demands were unreasonable or unattainable. She recommended that both sides accept the report in full, with the recommended increases, to bring the issues to an end.
