The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found John Carroll’s unfair-dismissal complaint against Randor Computers not well founded. The decision was dated 16 August 2022. Carroll’s Employment Equality Act complaint was withdrawn at the hearing. Carroll challenged the redundancy of his business development role, arguing that there was not proper consultation or an opportunity to appeal. The company said the role was no longer commercially viable as customer visits stopped during the pandemic and new business came through other channels. The officer found the role was genuinely redundant and that Carroll had an opportunity to respond; the officer also found that some responsibility for the consultation process lay with Carroll.
