The Workplace Relations Commission found that GGL Security fairly dismissed security guard Michal Ododziej after his licence expired and he interfered with CCTV equipment at a customer’s premises. The decision was dated 7 December 2021. GGL Security said it dismissed Ododziej for gross misconduct following an investigation and disciplinary meeting. He argued that the licence expiry was not his fault and should have been treated as mitigation. He accepted interfering with the camera, saying he did not want to be filmed. The WRC found he had adequate opportunities to respond and that the employer’s process was fair. It concluded that the dismissal was within the range a reasonable employer could decide on the facts.
