Harrington Bookmakers ordered to pay Dariusz Sobocinski €2,337.50 for unfair dismissal

The WRC found Dariusz Sobocinski was unfairly dismissed by Harrington Bookmakers Limited and ordered the company to pay him €2,337.50, subject to statutory deductions. In a decision dated 17 February 2022, it also upheld his minimum notice and annual leave complaints, ordering payments of €1,870 and €467.50 respectively. Sobocinski said he was told his employment was ending without prior notice or discussion. The company did not attend the hearing or provide a written submission. The adjudicator accepted Sobocinski’s evidence that he had no opportunity to make representations and found no evidence of a fair redundancy selection process. He was also due five days’ annual leave for the period worked in 2020.
