The Workplace Relations Commission found Gintare Coyle was unfairly dismissed by Hillview Private Nursing & Retirement Residence and awarded her €9,172.80 in compensation. The decision was dated 16 June 2023. The WRC said the employer did not conduct a fair investigation or give Coyle a proper opportunity to take part.
Coyle said she was dismissed by email in August 2019 after raising concerns about a co-worker’s conduct. The respondents said she had ended her own employment and had not engaged with their investigation. The WRC found the employer had terminated her employment and acted with undue haste, without properly investigating both sides’ complaints or telling Coyle about allegations against her. It ordered compensation for six months of lost income.
