WRC finds Charleville Park Hotel discriminated against minor and awards €3,000

By Gráinne Nolan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Atlantic Troy Limited T/A Charleville Park Hotel discriminated against a minor on housing assistance and Traveller community grounds, and directed the hotel to pay €3,000 compensation and revise its credit-card booking requirement. The decision was dated 16 February 2022. The family sought three nights of emergency accommodation after being assessed as homeless. The adjudicator found the hotel selectively applied its credit-card requirement when the family arrived, despite having booked online with a debit card. He also found the hotel’s previous experience with Traveller families contributed to its refusal to accommodate them. A second complaint reference was treated as a duplicate. The adjudicator did not name the minor.
