The WRC awarded a book keeper €3,600 in notice pay after her employment ended without notice following almost 20 years’ service. Adjudication Officer Kevin Baneham dated the decision 9 May 2017. The worker said she was told the business would close and received a letter ending her employment immediately. She had received her statutory redundancy payment and sought eight weeks’ wages in lieu of notice. The employer did not attend the hearing; it had acknowledged in a letter that €3,600 was owed. The WRC found she was entitled to eight weeks’ notice pay under the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, at her gross weekly wage of €450. It ordered the employer to pay €3,600 within 42 days.
