The WRC found two contract cleaners’ complaints over Good Friday pay were not well founded. The decision was dated 15 May 2017. The cleaners argued they should have been paid for Good Friday in 2016 under an established practice and the employment regulation order. The employer said it had paid them for Good Friday in 2015 by mistake and complied with the current order. The adjudication officer found the cleaners had been employed after 2 August 2012, when the order treated Good Friday as a normal working day unless a worker had a contractual entitlement to payment. The officer found the mistaken 2015 payments did not create an implied term.
