The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed a customer’s disability discrimination complaint against a bus company in a decision dated 10 March 2017. The customer said a driver questioned her Free Travel Pass and initially refused to let her board in Clongriffin. The company denied the claim, saying its investigation found nothing untoward. The adjudication officer found it highly probable that a verbal exchange had taken place about boarding while the driver was on a rest break. The driver had no recollection of the parties, and there was no CCTV or independent witness. The officer found the evidence insufficient to establish discrimination but recommended refresher training on customer relations when passengers seek shelter on a stationary bus.
