Labour Court rejects appeal over Eastern Health Board allowance claim

In 1999, the Labour Court rejected a union appeal seeking a dual-capacity allowance for an Eastern Health Board worker who handled national influenza vaccine contracts. The Court found no grounds to alter the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that he was not entitled to the allowance. The union said the worker’s contracting duties from 1994 to 1998 amounted to an additional post and that comparable officers received an allowance. The Board said he performed only some additional duties while remaining in his substantive position at St. Ita’s Hospital, Portrane. The decision was signed on 6 October 1999.
