In 1998, the Labour Court rejected the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union’s appeal and upheld a recommendation settling its dispute with Brothers Of Charity Services over weekend work at Kilcornan Centre. The Court signed its decision on 11 December 1998. The union sought Sunday and bank holiday premiums and subsistence for an instructor who attended Special Olympic events as part of her duties. Brothers Of Charity Services said weekend work was voluntary and staff received time off in lieu. The recommendation called for future involvement to be voluntary, compensated with time off in lieu, and for a once-off £1,000 settlement.
