The Labour Court amended a Rights Commissioner recommendation concerning R.T.E.’s withdrawal of a £774 annual allowance from Two Workers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The Court signed its decision on 14 June 1996, directing a lump sum equivalent to twice the annual allowance in full and final settlement. The Rights Commissioner had recommended that the union and workers accept that the allowance was properly discontinued. The union appealed, saying the allowance was permanent and pensionable and had been withdrawn without agreement. The Labour Court found the allowance had not been specifically discussed in negotiations over a benefits package and said changes to the written agreement should have been discussed and agreed.
