The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that a worker’s claim to add three discretionary payments to his salary should fail, rejecting an appeal by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The decision was signed on 17 April 1996. The union said the worker continued to perform significant additional duties after the payments stopped in 1993 and sought their restoration. Navan Carpets Limited said the payments were discretionary and had never been promised as part of regular salary.
