In 1994, the Labour Court rejected a worker’s appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Woodstock Cafe pay her £260 after her dismissal. The decision was dated 7 October 1994. The worker said she was let go after asking for St Patrick’s Day bank-holiday pay and was given no valid reason. Woodstock Cafe said its breakfast business had declined, the worker had been warned her job might go, and workers received a day off in lieu for bank-holiday work. The original recommendation was made up of £60 in lieu of holiday pay and £200 compensation. After considering both sides’ submissions and evidence from the hearing, the Labour Court found the recommendation reasonable.
