In 1994, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner's recommendation in its dispute with Fingal County Council. The decision was signed on 30 September 1994. The unnamed cleaner said she had been allowed to work on a task-and-finish basis. The Council denied any such agreement and said it deducted pay for hours recorded as absences. The union said the changes cut her weekly earnings by £30 and sought repayment of the deductions. The Rights Commissioner had recommended that the worker accept her 48-hour contract and negotiate any variation through her union. The Labour Court found no grounds to reject that recommendation.
