Labour Court rejects National Bus and Rail Union appeal over Bus Eireann driver’s seniority

Labour Court ·

In 1993, the Labour Court rejected the National Bus and Rail Union’s appeal and upheld a recommendation in Bus Eireann’s favour over a seasonal driver’s seniority at Galway Depot. The decision was signed on 22 July 1993. The union argued that seniority should reflect the worker’s continuous service and raised concern that suitability decisions could allow discrimination. Bus Eireann said two drivers re-engaged before him should rank higher on the permanent seniority list. The Court found the company was not in error and could consider the worker’s work record when deciding his suitability and position on the panel for further employment.
