In 1992, the Labour Court rejected three workers’ appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation for £500 compensation each, with a possible further £250 each if they had not been recalled by the end of October. The decision was dated 8 April 1992. The workers were made redundant when Unitrode B.V. ended its weekend shift in February 1991. They said they had been assured they would return if the shift restarted; it resumed in May, but they were not reinstated. Unitrode said it selected workers for return based on relevant training and skills. At the hearing, the company undertook to provide suitable references.
