In 1991, the Labour Court increased compensation to £750 for a worker unfairly dismissed by Christopher Darby, trading as Chris's Barber Shop. The decision was dated 2 October 1991. The worker appealed the Rights Commissioner's £510 recommendation, saying the compensation was insufficient. He said he had permission to finish early on Christmas Eve but worked until about 4 p.m. and was dismissed after returning to work on 28 December. Darby said the worker left without permission after being warned he could be dismissed. The Labour Court maintained the unfair dismissal finding and amended the recommendation to £750.
