The Labour Court upheld Irish Biscuits Ltd’s appeal and recommended that the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union, the Service Industrial Professional Trade Union and the Bakery and Foodworkers Amalgamated Union accept the company’s offer to move 13 quality control inspectors from grade 4 to grade 5. The decision was dated 24 January 1991. The inspectors had sought grade 6, arguing that their duties had expanded, including through checks on complex export labelling. The company said grade 5 adequately reflected their work. The Court found the company’s offer reasonable; the grade 5 allowance was £23.95, compared with £19.80 at grade 4.
