The Labour Court left a £3,000 compensation recommendation in place after Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed on behalf of a worker who lost his driver/steward position at Ulster Bank Limited. The Court dated its decision 3 December 1990. The worker had been driver/steward to the Bank’s chairman before accepting a van-driver post. The union argued that the replacement driver/steward position should have been advertised internally and sought his return to the role. The Bank said he had been unavailable for the replacement position, declined an alternative role and accepted the van-driver post. A Rights Commissioner had recommended £3,000 in full and final settlement, increasing the Bank’s £2,000 offer. The Labour Court found no grounds to alter that recommendation.
