Labour Court overturns £200 recommendation on Skerries Shirt Company appeal

In 1989, the Labour Court upheld Skerries Shirt Company Limited's appeal and overturned a Rights Commissioner's recommendation for a £200 settlement to a worker made redundant as an examiner. The decision was signed on 8 June 1989. The company said falling orders made the post redundant and that the worker was the last hired in her area. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union argued another worker had been hired to do work she could have performed, and that she should have been offered retraining. The Court found she was let go because of redundancy and was not unfairly dismissed.
