Labour Court upholds recommendation on Fingal Community College caretaker job

The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a worker’s appeal over the end of his temporary caretaker employment at Fingal Community College. The decision was dated 4 July 1988. The recommendation said the permanent post had been properly filled and asked the college to consider him for suitable temporary work. The worker challenged the recruitment process and said he was better qualified than the successful candidate. County Dublin Vocational Education Committee said the temporary role was always intended to end when a permanent caretaker was recruited, and that the worker had ranked second in the competition.
