The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Irish Culture And Craft Work Limited offer a worker £400 after dismissing her during an illness-related absence. The decision was dated 4 July 1988. The worker had been a secretary and also helped pack and dispatch orders. The worker said she believed her job was being held for her and was told it was gone when she returned. The company said her prolonged absence made a replacement necessary and it could not afford to employ both workers. The Rights Commissioner found the company acted hastily and without fair procedure, and the Labour Court left the recommendation in place.
