The Labour Court left in place, as clarified, a recommendation in a dispute between Aer Lingus and the National Union of Sheet Metal Workers over meal allowances for 30 sheet metal workers. Its decision was signed on 13 April 1987. The union sought to retain the practice of paying an allowance when workers agreed to work unscheduled overtime. Aer Lingus argued that the workers were not entitled to it under their agreement. The Court said the agreement did not provide for the allowance and determined that the parties should begin negotiations without delay on buying out the informal practice.
