The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann - Irish Rail and a worker identify a suitable management position after the employer appealed a recommendation to reinstate him in his former role. The decision was signed on 3 December 2015. Iarnrod Eireann said the worker retained his salary and terms in the seconded role and had not engaged with Human Resources about alternatives. The worker said his technical role differed from his former senior management position, where he managed 30 staff and a budget of about €7 million. The Court found he had spent an extended period in a role inappropriate to his experience and track record, and recommended that both sides engage fully and openly to find a suitable alternative management role in the short term.
