The Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation and granted a Waterford City Council supervisor an additional €4,500 in full and final settlement of his appeal over reduced overtime and its effect on his expected pension entitlements. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, had sought placement on the General Supervisor’s pay scale. The council said it could not compensate him for earnings lost because of a statutory change to working hours, but was willing to apply the original recommendation favourably when calculating his pension entitlements. The Court’s decision was dated 20 October 2008.
