The Labour Court recommended that Whelan Footwear Manufacturing Limited repay three hours’ deducted pay to six making-room employees after a dispute over a new production-incentive recording system. The decision was dated 18 December 2006. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed after the Company switched from daily to weekly work sheets. The Court accepted the change as normal ongoing change and considered it reasonable to expect employees to work under protest. It also found that the Company had not consulted adequately before introducing the system, and recommended repayment in the interests of good industrial relations.
