The Labour Court recommended upgrading a worker at St James's Hospital to Chief Medical Scientist, effective 6 December 2004. Its decision was dated 2 November 2006. The Medical Laboratory Scientists Association sought the upgrade for a Senior Medical Scientist in charge of the Endocrinology Laboratory, but the Hospital argued Endocrinology was not a separate department and said funding was unavailable. The Court found the worker's duties, responsibilities and contribution merited the upgrade, varied the Rights Commissioner's recommendation and allowed the appeal.
