In 2001, the Labour Court upheld a recommendation that a resident level crossing keeper accept her rate of pay was correct and that no compensation was due. Iarnrod Eireann's appeal failed. The decision was signed on 19 November 2001.
The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought retrospective pay for the keeper's duties over 20 years, citing a claimed weekly difference of £28. The company said she was paid above the rate set by the marking system. The Court found she was properly graded and had been on a personal rate above colleagues with a similar grade; her rate was brought into line with similar markings in 1999.
