The Labour Court upheld Scoil Chaitriona Senior’s appeal and recommended accepting the caretaker’s rate paid from January 2000, with an increase under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness and its first phase retrospective to 1 January 2001. The decision was signed on 12 March 2001. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the caretaker had gone about seven years without a pay rise and sought pay in line with other education-sector caretakers. The school said he was employed under the 1992 PESP grant scheme. The Court found the post came under that scheme and said the January 2000 adjustment reflected unpaid increases from 1993 to 2000. The Rights Commissioner’s earlier recommendation of £272.93 a week was superseded.
