Community note
Kinlough's community centre is the village noticeboard as much as a venue. The first St Patrick's Day parade started there just after midnight on Tuesday 17 March 2026, after people gathered from 11pm the night before, went through Main Street and came back for tea, cake and music. RTÉ described it as Kinlough's first parade and Ireland's earliest St Patrick's Day parade. The same centre notices include GAA, Foróige, the kayak club, Monday-night bingo, a July Community Development Co syndicate and children's camp notices into the ordinary village week. Recent centre notices include more than the parade story. The Town Team meeting on 17 June was repeatedly pushed from the centre, with project posters and a 7pm call-out for people to come in. The discussion around it covered heritage, local history, EV charging, biodiversity, sport, tourism, farming and transport, with public comments also talking about practical charging points. The same notices carried a small missing black cat notice around Edenville, a small neighbourhood notice alongside meetings and events. The lake and sports side is practical too. Lap the Lake for North West STOP is listed for Saturday 18 July 2026 from Askill Community Centre, with 32km Lough Melvin laps, registration from 7.30am, first lap at 8am and a final lap at 7pm. Glenade Bonfire Night was carried as a nearby Lough Melvin evening, with the Glenade Resource Centre named for Tuesday 23 June 2026 from 8pm. The ORIS-funded Boathouse extension was shown close to completion in late May. Lough Melvin Eco Park gives Kinlough woodland, lake shore, walking trails, wildlife habitats, picnic area, play area and community garden, while Melvin Gaels uses the community-centre pitch and the astroturf is open to local groups, clubs and individuals seven days a week from 9am to 11pm.
