Zhen Dong Zhao's murder conviction quashed on appeal

By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Zhen Dong Zhao had his murder conviction quashed by the Court of Appeal on 26 June 2015, with a retrial ordered. The case arose from the death of Noel Fegan outside Zhao's internet café on Wellington Quay, Dublin, in May 2011.

The court found the jury charge on provocation was not sufficiently clear in a finely balanced case. Zhao's 2012 conviction was therefore set aside and the appeal was allowed.
