An unnamed nurse was found guilty of professional misconduct for stealing medicines and prescription forms in an NMBI inquiry reported on 30 June 2023. The proven allegations concerned unauthorised takings from Clonmethan Lodge in Oldtown, Co Dublin, and presentation of a forged prescription at a Dublin pharmacy on 3 May 2017. The nurse had pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in February 2020 to forgery and theft charges and received a nine-month suspended sentence. The fitness-to-practise committee rejected a claim that his history of hypnotic-use disorder impaired his ability to practise nursing. Recommended sanctions were to be presented to the NMBI in due course.
