Unnamed GAA coach loses appeal over rape and sexual assault sentence

By Fionn Kelly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The unnamed GAA coach was denied leave to appeal his 14-year-and-six-month sentence for rape and sexual assault by the Supreme Court, reported on 25 October 2024.

His original sentence at the Central Criminal Court in December 2021 was 10.5 years, with the final 18 months suspended. The Court of Appeal later increased it to 14 years and six months, again suspending the final 18 months.

The Supreme Court said there was nothing to suggest that the Court of Appeal had misapplied the law, and dismissed his application for leave to appeal the increased sentence.
