Tomasz Orzel’s family settled High Court claims over his death, reported on 27 June 2025. The proceedings concerned an accident in Tallaght on 19 March 2020, when Orzel was working for Padraig Thornton Waste Disposal Ltd.

His wife brought an action for nervous shock and another relating to his death. The family claimed the refuse truck reversed into him while he collected wheelie bins and alleged failures in workplace safety and the reversing arrangements.

The company denied all the claims. Mr Justice Paul Coffey extended his sympathy to Orzel’s wife and son after the court was told the actions had settled.
