Tom Reilly had his six-year sentence for handling stolen property upheld by the Court of Appeal on 2 March 2020. The offending involved stolen vans brought from the UK and sold in Ireland, mainly through DoneDeal.

Reilly had pleaded guilty to four sample counts covering conduct between 1 August 2009 and 25 June 2010. The vehicles were altered to match fraudulently obtained logbooks before sale, and eight purchases left Irish buyers €50,150 out of pocket.

The court said the sentencing judge was entitled to consider the wider context, while Reilly was criminally liable for 11 vehicles rather than all 70 cloned vehicles detected in Ireland. The appeal against the severity of the sentence was dismissed.
